Taco Surf Sushi and Steak Bar, Hayahay

Taco Surf Sushi and Steak Bar carries the ambiance of Lab-as Restaurant (just next door) but with a backpacker pipe dream. Chairs are padded with geometric motif in turquoise and aquamarine. Framed movie posters and other surfing-themed artworks adorn the wall clad in wood.

capacity: The bar is long enough to sit ten people while the tables could accommodate twice as much. Behind the bar, another room can sit more diners.

food: This joint offers sushi, taco and steak.

Dumaguete motocross 2012 in photos

Adrenaline rush. Dust and heat. Then, a quick downpour. Motocross and mud. Perfect ingredients for an adventure race in the epicenter of the fiesta maelstrom, rather, revelry in Dumaguete!

I was about to shove the last slice of the heavenly blueberry shortcake at the tail-end of the epic three-hour lunch when the opportunity to take photos of the motorcross presented itself. Off I went!

Island's Leisure Boutique Hotel + Spa in Dumaguete City

At the outset, it appears to me that Island's Leisure Boutique Hotel is one of new hotels sprouting in Dumaguete that positions itself as good value for the buck (i.e. for backpackers; bunk bed with aircon at Php350.00/night)

It sits on a what appears to be an apartment compound in its past life.

phallic symbols and a woman ahead of her time in Talisay City, Negros

I enjoy stories about women who are ahead of their time. Fiesty. Independent. Strong. Joan of Arc, Coco Chanel and St. Hildegard of Bingen to name a few.

In Talisay, her name is Tana Dicang. I first read about her in the book The Nation Beyond Manila (Ateneo Press) by Maam Chari Lucero--a professor of Philippine literature at UP Diliman.
