Tavern Hotel in Surigao City| excellent service, best value!

The day here begins with a warm cup of coffee on one hand while the other hand draws the curtain to one side. From where I sit, Surigao Strait which figured in a tumultuous part of history, is as flat as glass. I can make out a couple of ships gingerly approaching toward the harbor, slicing the calm water in its wake.

The 5th floor balcony of Tavern Hotel's Oceanview Suite
Surigao City is just rousing from sleep. Tricycles begin to buzz in opposite directions of the boulevard five floors down. Joggers, five of them, exchange pleasantries while catching their breaths.

Then, the "hour" comes in. Spectacular is an understatement to describe this dramatic sunrise from the Pacific. The distant islands are bathed in the morning glow of red orange that will soon turn into azure. Blades of light emanating from behind the clouds knife the skies. A view so stunning and fleeting at the same time.

I finish off my coffee and then plump myself in the sofa inside the suite before the air outside gets thick. The rest of the day will be spent at the Pebble Beach.

Rates
Php1,900.00 (standard) to Php3,600.00 (ocean view suite)

Basics
The words "rich history" and "modern luxury" can blend easily in one sentence for this hotel in Surigao. Since its humble beginning as a nine-room lodging in the 1940s, Tavern remains the venue of choice for locals and expats alike.

Today, it is the premier hotel and special events venue in Surigao with 75 well-appointed rooms plus the only fine dining restaurant in Surigao. Hotel Tavern Surigao has all in all 3 restaurants, 8 banquet and function rooms, a lobby lounge and a Business Office.

But the jewel that makes Hotel Tavern a class all its own is the efficient service and genuine friendliness of its staff. Very consistent! The friends and I who are on this trip are truly impressed!

Location
Hotel Tavern is located along the Boulevard at Surigao City. The port is practically next door. Airport shuttle is free-of-charge.

Hotel Address: Borromeo Street, Surigao City; contact number: (086) 826 8566; email: booking@hoteltavern.com

The room
We are billeted at the Oceanview Suite since yesterday. This is the view from the living room:

The five-star king size bed that can actually sleep 3:

There's a daybed at the corner window overlooking Surigao Strait:

The flat screen TV and living area:

There's complimentary coffee/tea in the room. Housekeeping is round the clock while room service operates 18-hour.

The bathroom
The toilet and bath is spacious. Plus a bathtub:

The guest kit. Nice touch.

Dining
Dinner is at Melange. The restaurant offers Filipino with a touch of Asian and international flavors. From the get-go, only the freshest catch and ingredients are added to our meal. Really delicious! The service has been consistently good! There's live music to complete the first-rate ambience. The good life!

Buffet breakfast
Complimentary breakfast is at Cafe Rosa. The telescope at the cafe is a unique touch:

Another nice touch is found at the jacket of the electronic door pass. Standard fare, direction back to the hotel and emergency numbers:

The bottomline
Hotel Tavern has the small town charm and the quality of its service is ahead in the game.

At the onset, from the time we checked in up to the doorway before we entered our assigned room, the three of us knew that it was a sign of wonderful experiences to come with Hotel Tavern.
