Backpacking in Japan| budget for a 7-day trip around (Osaka) Kansai Area

Readers and friends have been asking me how much did I spend for my one-week trip around Kansai-area in Japan last month.

I would tell them that for a country like Japan, a minimum of P5,000.00 per day for food and hostel bed would be safe. So 7 days x P5,000.00 = P35,000.00

It turned out that the actual figure is actually higher than what I initially thought. This after I gathered the receipts and did the math. So, how much did I spend for my 7-day trip in Japan? My updated answer is not less than Php42,474 for fare, hostel and food. Add entrance fees and a little shopping, the total reached six figures! Just kidding.

10 things to do around Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Akashi and Himeji), Japan

Japan has ruined me.

It all began at the immigration. Then at the money changer. At the tourist information desk and finally at the Japan Rail office. All just within the first hour after touchdown at Osaka (Kansai) International Airport.

In the next six days, I would be in the eye of the storm that has smitten all visitors to Japan. It's called omotenashi or the elaborate and wholehearted hospitality perfected by the Japanese. That plus the genuine kindness of the locals, the epic culinary adventures, capsule hotels, trendy locals, interesting tourist spots and the efficient public transport system ruined my otherwise favorable experience in any other countries! These are just words until you experience them.

How to apply for a Japan visa (for Filipinos)?

A 15-day Japan visa for Filipinos is free or gratis. Apparently for us Philippine passport holders, Japan is not visa-free. Not yet.

For the longest time, I've been wishing to visit Japan. My 7-week study-tour in Gandhi Schools-Korea was already a foot in the door, Japan being just an overnight boat ride from Busan to Fukuoka or 1.5 hour flight from Incheon to Osaka. So once I got my South Korean Visa, I wasted no time in applying for the Japan Visa.

With barely two weeks before my scheduled departure from Cebu to Incheon, it was a race against time!
